[Men's Cross Country] Men's Cross Country shines at AAC ChampionshipsPublished by
The Cavalier cross country teams made school history again as they competed at the AAC Championship this Saturday, hosted by Milligan College at Sycamore Shoals Park in Elizabethton, TN. Wilbourn Kosgei led the way for both the team and the race, as he crossed the line in first place with a time of 25:55 for the 8km distance as the team finished third with 70 points. With the win, Kosgei was named the 2008 Men's AAC Runner of the Year. The Cavaliers were defeated by AAC Champions Milligan College (27 points) and were narrowly beaten by King College (69 points) by one spot. Sophomore Ben Hall followed Kosgei through the shoot with an 8th place finish (27:00). Both Kosgei and Hall earned the right to represent the Cavaliers at the National Cross Country Championship in Kenosha, WI. Both runners were also named to the All-AAC Team, which consists of the top ten finishers in the race. "I can't be more proud of the manner in which our men competed. They've been a blessing to be around each and every day. Unfortunately, we didn't meet our goal, but I believe firmly that we're taking the right steps to get there. Wilbourn and Ben were spectacular today," praised Coach Larios. "I'm certain these two men will represent Montreat very well at the national championships." Filling out the top five for the Cavaliers were sophomores Daniel Dunn (12th place, 27:29) and Andrew Hege (24th place, 28:26) and senior Justin Edwards (25th place, 28:26).
