This July 4th weekend for Georgia State freshman Alysiah Whittaker will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. She will leave her St. Louis home on Wed., July 2 to head to Eugene, Ore. to compete in the USA Track & Field Junior Outdoor Championships.

In the final event for Georgia State athletics in 2013-14, Alysiah Whittaker placed 29th in the shot put at the NCAA East Preliminary Track and Field Championships on the campus of North Florida.

Senior Katharine Showalter failed to qualify for the NCAA Championship as she finished 43rd overall in the 3,000m steeplechase at the NCAA East Preliminary on Friday.

In the first day of the NCAA East Preliminary Championship, sophomore sprinter Ravin Gilbert finished 36th in the women's 100 meter dash Thursday night. Gilbert's season has come to an end because only the top 24 runners advanced to the quarterfinals.

Three members of the track and field team have been invited to the NCAA East Preliminary Championship in Jacksonville, Fla. May 29-31.
